Post-quantum cryptography stopped being a research topic once standards bodies finalized the first quantum-resistant algorithms. The threat isn't only in the future — an attacker can capture encrypted traffic today and decrypt it years from now once hardware catches up. For anything that must stay secret for a decade, that clock has already started.

Long-lived secrets are the exposure: health records, financial data, government communications, and firmware-signing keys that live in the field for years. If it must remain confidential well into the future, its protection needs to be quantum-safe today.
